My name is Jake McGrail, and I’m a multifaceted young professional defined by my versatility. Ever since I was a 15-year-old writing articles as a volunteer for a community newspaper, I’ve consistently honed my skills and created content of all kinds for various outlets.

Most recently I’ve served as a member of the communications team at the University of British Columbia (UBC) Athletics Department. Through my time there I’ve demonstrated a wide range of skills including writing regular news releases and feature articles, managing branded social media accounts, updating and improving website content, helping facilitate live events and providing play-by-play commentary for the school’s varsity basketball and volleyball home games.

In addition to being well-versed in both external and internal communications, I have plenty of experience creating different styles of content. Whether it’s researching and interviewing for a journalistic article, writing evergreen web content, creating scripts for radio or TV, or shooting and editing my own video, I’m able to tackle whatever objective is in front of me and tailor it to a specific audience. I’m comfortable speaking in front of a microphone or a crowded room, and working both collaboratively as part of a well-oiled team or taking initiative to execute a project independently.

Above all else I’m a storyteller, and what I love about it is how many different forms a story can take. No matter what role it is I fill in the creative process, I take pride in my ability to bring what I’m working on to life in an engaging way.
